The crabcake burger = five stars. Rehoboth isn't really known for its nightlife but it's a pretty decent spot to go out.

Love coming here during the summer. Service is okay, but it is usually a lot of young summer help, so don't expect to be treated like it's a super nice steakhouse. However, the food is worth coming here every time, I've come here several times with family and a group of friends.

Got gay-bashed, sued, won, enough said? The owning manager of this place is a special kind of gross. I was shocked to find out people and places like this still exist in Rehoboth in the 21st century. Most gay-unfriendly place I've experienced in a decade. Can I give zero stars?

Solid place for good burgers, kids chicken tenders, pasta. Summerhouse is an annual stop for us when we go to Bethany Beach each year. Really enjoy the atmosphere, the fact that is a large place and can accomodate a lot of people (they are always busy, but they are a really big restaurant!), and the service is always very friendly. They understand they are in the business of cultivating the vacationer crowd and I love how they treat their customers, the reliably good food, and convenient location!

The service was great. My mom had the white bean chili and she really enjoyed it. The small house salad was also very fresh and tasty. They served it with crumbles of blue cheese, which was nice. The house dressing was light, sweet and delicious. Wish that there were more chunky tomatoes. My crabcake sandwich was full of nice lumps of crabmeat, but I think it was browned a bit too long for my taste. It tasted a bit overdone on the outside. In general, I don't prefer shoestring fries, so perhaps my opinion here is biased. The shoestring sweet potato fries were ok, I just prefer nice chunky fries. My suggestion is to order the kettle chips, they are homemade and not salty.

Went to Summerhouse on a quiet, uncrowned Wednesday night in search of a good burger and we found it. I had the special with provolone and mushrooms with a side of tomato-basil salad. My husband had the sliced sirloin with monterey jack cheese sandwich with the sublime cheesy Neves potatoes side. Everything was delicious and extremely well prepared! Matthew our waiter was excellent and we loved his beer suggestion - an amber ale draft beer. A great meal at a reasonable price and everything we were looking for last night!

Typical sports bar -- noisy, TV screens everywhere. Servers were nice but not overly competent, food nothing special.

Awful awful awful. Made us wait to be seated despite an empty restaurant. We waited for a server, the waited and waited for drinks. Appetizer was really yucky and finished it before we got our drinks. Entrees (just burgers) were ok. Hubbie waited and waited and asked three different employees for BBQ sauce. Then waited and waited for the bill despite multiple requests. I actually wish my preschooler would've acted up because then they might have hustled a bit.

Service was terrible. Barstaff was rude and ignorant. Sat at the bar and there were only 8 other people at the bar. Took 20 minutes to get a drink and had to ask for my water to be refilled 3 times. At one point we saw one bartender drinking behind the bar and was completely oblivious to the fact we were waiting for our bill. On that note it was quite obvious that several of the bartenders were intoxicated. As we exited our one bartender and several servers were outside dancing on the benches. I have always enjoyed the summer house in the past, but will now take my business elsewhere.

We did not set out to go to the Summer House. We were looking for a place to eat lunch and this place looked ok. They were able to seat our party of five right away. The service was a bit slow, but it wasn't terrible. I ordered the cuban panini. There was alot of meat on it and it was good, but I was super confused by the pork on it. It was doused in barbeque sauce, which is not typical of a cuban sandwich. The mustard was very dijon"y", which masked the bbq sauce. Fiance had the turkey reuben panini. It was pretty good. There was nothing about this place or the food that I loved and nothing that I hated. It was acceptable. Oh, and we had one fly around our table.

Nice place that has been around for years but I have never visited. I agree with Michael Os comment: it does have a "chain restaurant" vibe to it, but it is a nice looking clean envrionment. Have eaten there twice now and each meal was just fine. I was more impressed with the business lunch specials they have during the week sometimes...great deal for a 3 course lunch. Last time I at there for dinner I sat at a booth by the bar (not a busy night) and had to listen two three local yokels yuck it up with the bartender...loud and profanity laced discussion (not from the bartender)...feel like the bartender should have stepped in and told them to keep it down, but not a huge deal, just pretty annoying.

Great service, food, and atmosphere! Would go again!

  • Michael O.

I would like this place better if it didn't give off a "chain" vibe to me. That being said, it's still a good spot. I went for brunch and had the crab cake eggs benedict, and it was good. I think the skillet potatoes that came with it were excellent though. Those are so hard to make, mine are always either mush or undercooked. Fresh squeezed OJ was nice, served over ice. It's a good spot to stop when you just want a sort of "all-around" type menu.

There is usually a "Summer House Chopped Salad" on the specials menu. It is awesome. The food is very good here. We had six in our party. One of the regulars said we always keep coming back here because it is always good. The staff is on top of things and do a great job.

Even I get tired of pizza, funnel cakes, ice cream, and other beach foods after a while, although my while is probably much longer than yours. Thankfully, there are several options for finer dining in Rehoboth Beach. Some of the restaurants that our concierge recommended were Fins, Cloud 9, Dogfish, Jake's, and Summerhouse. While we were walking to the beach in the afternoon, Cloud 9 looked way too upscale to bring a 6 month old, Fins also looked rather upscale, but as we walked past Summer House we noticed a car seat on one of the tables, and we decided this would be our spot for dinner. I'm happy to report that it is a great place for a nice dinner with the family. Food - Is there a shortage on scallops or something? This is the 2nd place in a span of 3 days that my wife and I visited that was out of scallops. So we settled for the calamari ($10) which was described as "flash-fried." The calamari was rubbery and the breading was soggy, which leads me to believe that the menu-writer saw the words "flash-fried" on another menu and decided, "That sounds awesome! I should put that on our menu," without having any idea what it is or how to do it. It was presented with pickled hot peppers, which was ok, and was served with tartar sauce - ask for marinara instead. For our entrees, we ordered two of the daily fish specials. My wife ordered the yellowfin tuna with a balsamic vinaigrette reduction ($25). Although the tuna was seared to perfection, with a cool, rare center, it wasn't very flavorful as the seasonings were rather weak and the chef may have taken the reduction too far b/c there were about 3 squirts of sauce on there. If it had better flavor, it would've definitely matched up with other fine seafood restaurants. I had the Chilean sea bass ($21) served with sauteed spinach and carrots and an Asian soy sauce. Like the tuna, the bass was cooked to perfection and though basic, the sauce was very good. The whole dish worked very well and I would gladly order it again. All entrees are served with one side. I had the broccoli and my wife ordered the sweet potato fries. Bizarro world, I know - I order steamed veggies and she orders fries? But after the AMAZING sweet potato fries @ Nellie's, we both were eying them here. The fries were shoe string, i.e., insanely annoying to eat, but were incredibly tasty. The broccoli was slightly over steamed but was great when dipped in my leftover Asian soy sauce. Location - We went around 9pm and had a 15 minute wait for a table. There are benches right outside or a bar area with plenty of flat screens, so the wait isn't too bad. When you enter the restaurant, you'll see a large bar area which had a decent-sized crowd for a Friday night. The dining area is separate from the bar so I'd definitely recommend this place for families. We had to place our Graco Snugride carseat on the table as the booths were a little too narrow to fit the seat in. We noticed several families with children dining there, as well as some couples - both straight and not-so-straight. So a pretty eclectic crowd. Service - was friendly but not the most attentive. Thankfully, the dining area isn't too big, so getting her attention was much easier than hailing a cab. Finally, the night became even more memorable as we saw Michael Phelps out touch Cavic at the wall on our way out of the restaurant. WOW! All in all, an excellent destination for fish and a great dinner in Rehoboth Beach. Summer Hours: 11:30am-1am Mon-Sat 11am-1am Sun Make your own bloody mary bar: Sunday 11am-3pm (Hey, it's 5 o clock somewhere).

Mediocre food. My ribs were good, but the sides weren't great. Decent bar scene, although they don't have drafts, only bottles! It's probably a good place to watch a game. Be sure to get a shot of their pineapple infused vodka. They make it themselves (notice the huge container of pineapple slices stewing in vodka on the bar).

Excellent food! Been here twice for lunch. Quality of food is top notch. Restaurant has not been packed either time. Nice sports bar feel quiet atmosphere. Much better food than Dogfish Head just down the street.

Hit or miss in the summer, but a pretty decent locals spot in the offseason. I've never eaten here in like 10 visits, but beers are fairly reasonable.

Worst 'sports bar' ever. No draft beer, food is mediocre and they keep changing the NFL games for golf, NASCAR and baseball. Giant fail.

This is a great restaurant if you have kids. Convenient location next to the town library. The informal atmosphere and bright colors in the front dining room are pleasant. Service was excellent and attentive. Weekday specials provide better value (on a Wed. night, I enjoyed a delicious BBQ combination with a 1/2 rack of ribs, and Carolina pulled pork). The only downside was the "spicy succotash" - I'd recommend the Neva potatoes. If you arrive before 6pm on a weekday (with kids), it's not very crowded.

I cannot say enough great things about Summer House. I've been coming here since I could properly spell out the word "Rehoboth". I could rave about this restaurant all day. FOOD: I've had just about everything on the menu, minus pastas. Their seafood is always fresh and local, and always delicious. One of my summer favorites is the pecan crusted Mahi with raspberry salsa. They often do a lot of fish like this with different nut crusts and salsas. Always delicious. Ribs, sandwiches, crab cakes, salads- all delicious. Be sure to!ask for the ciabatta bread and cheese to eat while you wait for your food! Prices are pretty affordable too. ATMOSPHERE: No matter where you sit, it's a great time. The bar area has ample television coverage for your favorite sport. There's two dining rooms and the one on the sidewalk is great for people watching. I will say, it is easy to eavesdrop on other conversations or be annoyed by patrons close by (if they're loud). Booths are nice and comfy. They make a big deal to watch your step so watch your step going up there. SERVICE: I've ALWAYS had good service here. We've had food mistakes that have been graciously resolved by the staff. Waiters and waitresses are usually seasonal but they're always extremely friendly. A trip to Rehoboth with my family and friends is incomplete without a dinner at Summer House. I encourage everyone else to make this a staple for their group at Rehoboth every summer.

It's not 'gourmet' but its friendly staff, drink offerings, reliable food, and---baked potatoes make this a great beach 'go-to.' After a lousy experience at one of Rehoboth Beach's 'high end' restaurants, we opted to explore-- landing at Summerhouse, where we had eaten on other occasions. (With advance reservations at Eden, we were very poorly treated after requesting an alternative table to the poorly-located one at which we were initially seated-- leading to our departure and decision to spend our money elsewhere.) We were treated to a friendly hostess ( as opposed to a very young person with inflated attitude at the other place) and were seated at a pleasant table where I didn't have to be bumped into by others (as opposed to other seating previously suggested as 'take it or leave it.') The food was good, the server attentive and the bill WAY less than what we were prepared to spend at Eden! We recaptured the pleasant feeling that was lost at the high end place. Thank you Summerhouse.

Been visiting Rehoboth Beach and SummerHouse since the 90s... have loved it extensively especially with 50% off burgers on Monday and always delicious drinks, foods, and service!!! Came here on my first night back in Rehoboth, Saturday of Labour Day. There was a surprisingly short wait, got seated shortly after putting name down and everything seemed normal... until my mom, who ordered Chicken Marsala (first mistake on her part for a burger/beach restaurant) and halfway thru eating it... SHE FOUND A HAIR, if not two strands in the dish!!!!!! Because the wait staff quickly took it away and offered replacement meal or to comp it, things were settled easy and we moved on, finished our meal in peace!2

I have to say this has long been one of our faves, food is good etc but this past Tuesday we went for lunch. Going to be a party of 9 but they would not seat us until all were present. I do understand this policy but the restaurant was empty, we indicate the 4 of us wanted a drink and app while we waited and the turned us away. We walked down to dis locos, had 6 drinks ( yes alcoholic) and 2 apps, happy our prices only $50 , we'd have paid close tom that at summerhouse for 4 drinks only. I honestly did not want to go back for lunch but no one wanted Mexican and tables for 9 are tough. We wound up spending over $200 for lunch, yes we do drink! Just not sure I am ever going to go back , feel like we locals get punished in the summer.

Great food and wonderful atmosphere. They were extremely busy on a Sunday night. Our waitress, Cordy, was fantastic. She gave us great food suggestions. She brought our drinks fast. Scallops appetizer was wonderful. We both had prime rib. Cooked perfectly at medium rare. Mac and cheese side dish was just like mom makes. Ceasar salad was cold, fresh, and just the right amount of dressing. The key lime pie was tart and creamy. A great meal with great service. We will be back again..

One of the BEST-EVER dinners -- 8oz filet, mashed pots, loaded wedge salad -- wonderful server Carla -- family still talking about it! Telling everyone heading to Rehoboth to be sure and dine at Summer House! It was amazing!

Took advantage of their half price burger night. They changed it up a little since we ate here last. It used to be a nice selection of burgers from their regular menu that were offered at half price. This time, it was a choice between a regular beef or turkey burger with cheese and toppings being extra except for the lettuce, tomato and pickle. I was hoping to be able to get the Bison burger I had last time, but no luck. That being said, the burgers were excellent. Mine cooked perfectly rare as ordered and my wife's well done as ordered ( I just can't convert her! ) Mine was topped with jalapeños and cheddar and hers cheddar and bacon. The lettuce and tomato were cold and fresh. One issue was as we ordered our waiter told us that the fryer was down so we had to choose an alternative to fries. WHAT? okay it happens. By luck, the fryer was back up by the time our burgers were ready, although we only knew this from seeing another table get fries, not that our waiter told us and asked if we wanted the fries we originally requested. We had to ask him to change the sides back to fries. His service was ok. For a starter we shared the Beefsteak Tomato and Mozzarella Napoleon. Being in Delaware in late summer I was hoping the tomatoes would be true beefsteak, fresh and ripe, and they were. The mozz was skimpy, definitely could have been a little more. The balsamic vinaigrette was excellent, topped with fresh basil.

Really good food and friendly service. We were in Rehoboth Beach for five nights and ate dinner here twice. It's a sports bar on one side, quieter dining room on the other. We liked both. Broad menu choices-- burgers, crab legs, prime rib, etc.

Heard rave reviews about this place. Not so much. Actually, not at all. We went Saturday night of Labor Day weekend. Short wait but from the moment I stepped into this dank musty smelling restaurant was turned off. I gagged at the smell. Note: The hostess was LOVELY. Honestly the hostess and the waiters were beyond amazing. Much kudos to them. But the smell of the place (think old wet sock) and the horrific quality of the food left so much to be desired. I ordered the kona coffee steak. Cooked perfectly in temp but it was a steak not seasoned at all. Just thrown into a can of maxwell house grinds and then onto the grill. Gross coffee grounds in my teeth. My husbands steak? Bland bland bland. No salt. No pepper. No nada. My fathers pork? Dry. Bone dry. So many lovely places to go in Rehoboth. Summer house will not get a return visit.

GF menu though no dedicated fryer. It was a real treat to get a crab cake for lunch. Cole slaw was very good. They took my needs seriously. Friend had a turkey burger and house made potato chips she said were very good.

Went here tonight with a large party and we had to split into two groups so that we could avoid having a 2 hour wait for dinner. Both groups started with the crab dip appetizer which was pretty tasty and had a pleasantly large quantity such that my group of 5 could all enjoy it without having to take miniscule portions. Since Monday is half off burger night, we all ordered 1/2 lb burgers. The burger was cooked well and tasted good, but the bottom bun on some of our burgers disintegrated due to meat juices. A more substantive bun would do well here. Fries were undersalted and rather bland but cooked well. Toppings (bacon, sauteed onions, pepper jack cheese, and a pickle) were all tasty. The only real complaints were that our waitress forgot to put some of our drink orders in and rarely came by to fill up waters. As a side note, they could use some shades on the front windows because if you're there during sunset you're going to get your retinas scorched by the bright sun if you're sitting in a window seat.

Summer House has excellent food and service. The staff is always attentive and meets all our requests. My family and I always eat at Summer House while we're in the Rehoboth area which is 4 or more times a year. I just ate there on Saturday night with my family and the white chicken chili is the best tasting chili I have ever had. I usually get their delicious crab cakes but I was glad I tried something different. To top it all off the Summer House staff gives you a large pieces of butcher paper and crayons to draw while you wait for your meal. Even if I didn't have a 5 year old that is a big plus in my book. In my perfect world, every restaurant would provide that.

Summer House was recommended to me by a friend. I was not disappointed. I went for lunch on a glorious sunny day. I would have liked to eat outside but no patio dining. I had the combo salad and soup. The goat cheese with spring greens was yummy. The roasted tomato and crab soup was delicious but the sherry out powered the flavor of roasted tomato. I will return!

I was there for happy hour with a group of middle aged women. The waitress was outwardly annoyed with us and it took forever to get drinks. We had to ask for menus and she was inattentive and rude to us when we tried to get her to refill our drinks. She came and told us we couldn't stay in the booths to drink that we had to order food. We had all planned to eat food but she hadn't offered us menus. We ordered food and she never came to ask us how the food was. One if the girls had tried to tell her that she didn't like her drink and she made a rude comment about being there too long to send it back, when in actuality she never came to check to see if she liked it. Terrible rude service! To the rude waitress...you should know you could have had a HUGE tip, but you treated us terribly and now you've earned a bad review instead

  • Fred F.

Very disappointed. This is a burger joint, nothing more. Keep your expectations in check. The college girls who pass for staff need lots more training. I have no idea how they get such good reviews. We are sorry we went and will not be back. Our only bad experience this trip. My lemonade was watery; have no idea how far ahead it was poured and allowed ice to melt. My steak was all fat and gristle, although it was correctly cooked. My side was not what I requested. The baked brie was tasteless. Poor quality cheese. Portions were large which was good. Adding insult to injury our server grossly overcharged us. Wish we had gone to McDonalds.

Have been coming here for past few years and it was always good. Went there early evening for dinner, even had a reservation. Sat us at a booth with dirty table. There were 5 of us only got 3 menus . Waited several minutes no server. Both next to us, who were seated later had a server first. Left the restaurant. The 3 hostesses were acting like we were bothering them. Last time I eat here. Food was good but this time service was horrible. So many better places to eat in Rehoboth not worth wasting your time.

I went here for Restaurant week with my mom and sister. We were seated right away and the waiter was quick to take our drink order. My mom and I ordered from the Restaurant Week menu. The food was good - not knock your socks off amazing, but quite tasty. Our waiter didn't check in very often and had to be asked to refill water. After our main course, he brought the check and then disappeared. When we finally saw him again 10 minutes later, we asked about our included dessert - he had forgotten. He brought an extra brownie as an apology, which was very nice, but it took a lot longer to get service than it should have. The apple crumble was delicious!

This is maybe closer to 3.5 stars to me. Summer House Grill is a solid bar that's an excellent place to watch games. Numerous tvs are visible from seating along the long, winding bar and all around the bar in table or booth seating. The prices are great, and there's a decent-size menu of food that I thought was pretty good. (The restaurant has at least two other large rooms, but I'm not sure I would return just for the food, while I would return to sit in the bar on another day when multiple games were playing at once.) The staff was friendly and helpful.

Great food, overpriced of course because it is beach resort, but not outrageously so. Rhode Island style calamari were v. gd. Gluten free menu was excellent. Wifey reports best restaurant gluten free menu ever, in fact. Braised short rib excellent. Pork chop excellent. Specialty cocktails excellent. Service was cheerful, authentic and efficient. Wait was awhile, but they delivered faster than promised and had super efficient text system so we could shop while waiting. .

We ate brunch on a fall Sunday at around 1:00 pm. The food was very good and the service matched. I opted for a breakfast sandwich with scrapple which was simple and done right. The pumpkin crab soup was fantastic and I got it on the server's recommendation - I highly recommend this soup! My wife seemed to like her grilled chicken sandwich. My father raved about his wedge salad and steak sandwich. Mother talked about how good her blackened mahi sandwich was. The thing that kept me from giving this place another star was how bizarrely loud it was. I get that the NFL was on four or five TVs but nobody needs to listen to the games at that level. I thought that was bad enough until they let someone (a manager? cook? bartender?) have the microphone where he proceeded to scream about specials and 50/50 raffles and whatever else he felt important. It was so loud that I couldn't here the person next to me, much less the people across from me. Even other staff members were visibly annoyed and finally a bartender told him to turn it down and stop. They must be doing things consistently right here as they've been in business since 1977 in an everchanging beach town. I'd go back here but not on an NFL Sunday. I have a feeling that the next time I'm there I'll raise this to four stars.

We ducked into the Summer House on a whim, and discovered one of the best restaurants in Delaware! Not only is the food fabulous (my husband had spareribs and I had shrimp & scallops), but the service is beyond belief! Out waitress, Kaitlyn, was super-attentive without being in our faces all the time, and she made some great meal suggestions. If the Summer House were in NYC, it would be one of those places where you need a reservation a month ahead of time....instead, it's a warm and comfortable family restaurant with great food, great service and extremely reasonable prices. Kudos to the Summer House!

A very disappointing experience -now twice- very poorly prepared crab cakes-nearly cold. Poorly prepared cheeseburger-asked for medium well-it came out rare. The prime rib shaved roast beef sanwich was horrid with cold roast beef, even though said served warm with melted cheese. Our servers, both times, seemed to spend nearly all their time someplace other than the dining room. The portions are large-and the menu is interesting-but kitchen needs to pay attention to cooking the food correctly.

Love this place for their tuna burger, but too bad they are always packed on Mondays. It's a real turn off. I decided to go on another night and became extremely disappointed when the bartender informed the tuna burgers are only served on Mondays! Unfortunately I will have to look for another place to satisfy my tuna burger craving :-(

Went in a Friday night off season. Still very busy and a bit loud, but service was friendly and prompt. Salad portions were very large and tasty. Steak entry was solid, but not outstanding. Gluten Free menu options were very limited, and did not include baked potatoes (which should have been on there).

Found this place by cruising into Rehobeth on 1A. Looked like a decent place. Ordered a couple of beers & a bowl of cream of crab. Soup came very fast & was delicious. Piping hot with tons of meat & flavor. Well done! Next we ordered angus burgers which are 1/2 price on Mondays. Fries are a side but I upgraded to homemade onion rings for $2. Burger was very tasty, roll soft & fluffy. Onion rings were awesome. Comes with chipotle aioli sauce, yum! Fries for my wife were delicious too. Homemade as well. All-in-all a very good experience. Recommend for sure.

I've always found this place to be pretty overrated. It's a nice bar, but the bartenders are a bit ride and it gets crowded at night. It's very popular because it's basically the only decent straight bar in Rehoboth

Had prime rib special...medium well was rare and came floating in sauce...flavor was decent...service could be better, glad it was a slow night or it could have been really bad...ordered captain and coke and got coke for the most part...don't let the fancyness and wood decor fool you, it's just another average restaurant!!

The Summer House is very good and I'm a fan of the bleu cheese burger. However, my wife and I did sit by the kitchen one time and we saw her brussel sprouts in a plastic bag go into the microwave. They were pre-cooked. We alerted the expeditor. After that we saw a styrofoam cup with soup in it go in the microwave. It was deformed with almost a hole in it. That was enough for us. We don't order soup or veggies there anymore. I've never really understood why a kitchen even needs a microwave other than for staff lunch.

It was a reasonable wait, considering it was a Saturday night. The charming greeter took my husband's cell number and sent him a text. We adjourned to the bar. So, the incredibly cute bartender made a good strawberry margarita. He's a nice guy, very funny and easy going. His went down like water. Now Meredith made the second round. This is the Girl You Watch Out For. Not only is she jaw dropping gorgeous, funny and seriously smart. She makes a mean, mean margarita. Be very, very nice to Meredith. Our server was Deanna who was a joy. She knew what was on the menu, and considering the modern complications of food sensitivities - its just not an easy job. She did not miss a beat. Her timing was excellent, The steak was *huge* and it was luscious. Dean had shrimp and crawfish étouffée that he adored. It was the equal of what he's enjoyed in New Orleans, with wonderful service. We'll certainly be back and happily recommend.

Holy hell (in a good way)! Best scallops I've had in years. If we hadn't been headed to a dinner later that night I would have ordered ten more plates and totally gorged myself on their scallops - big, seasoned, and perfectly cooked. We also ordered fries and they were yummy - shoestring and delectable!

I was worried at first bc it's somewhat dark in the entrance and smells like stale beer in a fraternity basement. But our service was great and the food matched. They have decent options for kids as well as good three course lunch options. Decent wine list too.

Had dinner here last night. After several seafood restaurants in the area, i wanted a nice piece of meat. Due to the lack of a real steakhouse in the area, we had to resort picking a restaurant and hope it's meat entrees were decent. Walked in, very nice and ample bar area which seemed very lively. Good atmosphere, nice low lighting. Dining room is off to the side - plenty of booths. The beer selection was not great and definitely not as extensive as some of the other eateries in the area. Still some nice choices are available. Good menu. Able to please everybody. I decided on the Delmonico steak ($22) which was one of the daily specials. Started with the spinach dip with was good. The entire food order for our table of 4 showed after only 10 minutes, which makes you wonder about when some of the items were prepared. Still, it was nice to have everything happening quickly. The Delmonico was outstanding. Tender, juicy. Great mashed potatoes and sautéed onions as well. Service was fast and courteous. All in all, a solid dining experience.

Great food and service! Showed up with a very large group on a Saturday night. 4 families and a total of 16 people. Joni and Caroline helped us big time and got us a nice big long table in the back where there was some room for the kids. Food was great! I had the burger and kids/friends had mixed grills, mac and cheese, big salads, etc. The portions were huge and fresh.

Tried this place last week. Not the most tentative bar service, I think I waited a good 10 minutes to get service from bartenders that weren't even busy. We waited almost 2 hours for a seat (even though they said 30 to 35 minutes when we came in). But the food was DELICIOUS when it came out. Would've been 5 stars if it weren't for the poor service (bartenders and waitresses) because the food definitely hit the spot for a decent price.

I have gone here before I was 21 and gotten kicked out (boo to the vigilant bouncers for doing their job) and now go there occasionally when I am in DE. It's a great place to hang with friends for dinner and stay for drinks. They have revamped the back room where I recently went for a rehearsal dinner. It was a far cry from being covered in sweat and ordering 2 long island ice teas at a time... The music is good, DJ JY ha and they have plenty of tvs above the bar to watch games to your hearts content no matter what the sport. The food is good, at the rehearsal dinner I had the crabcake and was not disappointed.

I actually checked to see if i could submit this restaurant to Kitchen Nightmares. The food was TERRIBLE. We were a group of seven. We all had pretty simple orders, most ordered the lunch special which was a turkey club with a side salad. The following things happened: 1. The ceiling was leaking on my friend, so they moved the table out the way. 2. My caesar salad tasted like mayonnaise 3. We were served pretty much one at a time. There was too much of a gap between getting our dishes. 4. My friend ordered a sandwich with chips and hers was the LAST to come out after my steak. 5. There was hair on her beer. 6. The sandwiches were dry and tasteless. In fact, every dish we had was pretty bland. All in all i found the food to be absolutely awful. The service actually wasnt bad and the prices were pretty average. I know in a restaurant, ppl have to work together to keep things running. Its not the waitress fault if the food is terrible. But i know for sure i will NEVER go there again. If anyone was to ask, i'd tell them the same.

Worked late yesterday and we weren't sure where to eat. Parked on the ave and walked and decided let's do summerhouse. The food and service are consistent and we always have a good meal. We ordered the BBQ combo with all three items to share. The pulled pork and chicken breast were good. The ribs were good too but I wiped about half the sauce away and they were still fairly wet. The sautéed spinach was good but didn't understand the addition of silvered carrots mixed in. The house salad was good. destiny was our waitress and she was good at getting us whatever we asked for it ie dressing on side, extra plate, and quickly. We think of this as a reliable good meal but usually avoid in summer because of crowds, it was good last night as usual.

have dined here for lunch 3 or 4 times over the past 2 yrs,...always sat at the bar. The design of the bar is very nice, roomy.....Food offering is above avg for bar food for sure, quality ingredients, and generous portions, good $ value........There is also plenty of dining seating...........my draft beer was flat today, but im sure thats a isolated issue.....

We ended up at Summerhouse after getting a late start for dinner and coming up against 2 hour waits everywhere else. This place only had a 20-25 minute wait. That gave me pause and made me wonder why, but I was pleased to find that the food was good! The "ambiance" could use some work. We were in the very back of the restaurant where it was dark and there were tvs hanging up high and music blasting. Meh. We ordered the Crab Dip to start and man, was it good. Lots of crab and cheese with some capers, which I love. It might be nice if they served this with some blue tortilla chips instead of bread, though. It would help to not get so filled up on one app! I ordered the Crab Cakes for my meal (when in Rome!) and they were really really tasty. It's true- "no filler!" I got Sauteed Mushrooms and Mac & Cheese as sides. Loved the mushrooms, wanted to love the m&c, but only liked it. Could have been better. But then again, I personally prefer my own to most other m&c's I get!! The breadcrumb crust was good. Husband ordered a sliced roast beef sandwich- au jus. It was also really good. Flavorful and the meat was very lean. My brother got the Veal and Mushroom Meatloaf and practically licked his plate clean. I also had a pineapple cocktail which was yum. The menu's not online and I can't remember the name of it! Our waitress was great- very nice and very efficient. If I return to Rehoboth, I'd visit Summerhouse.

I tried to base this review on the 2 times i actually sat down in the restaurant for dinner and on the 3 happy hour visits this summer. Both times for dinner would give 5 stars. Everything was fantastic both times. It was a while ago but I believe one entree was a filet and crab cake. No complaints and the next time the blue cheese chips and a pasta meal with scallops and shrimp which was top notch. The first visit this summer for late night happy hour was just okay. Fried pickles were just okay. Spinch dip just okay. Chicken tacos were pretty good. Came back again and ordered chicken tacos and pickles again. We were given wings and pickles. We didnt care at 5.00 a pop and just ate the wings. The bartender came over and told us he realized they were not what we ordered and asked if we wanted the tacos and wings would be free. Sure! So we ate everything. The manager came over and asked if we ordered the wings and we said no. We were charged for everything. Since we ate them we didnt say anything but we were told the mistake woudl be free. Left a bad taste in our mouths. Recently went again for Fri happy hour which is differnt than late night happy hour and better. Shared beef tenderloin tacos and the mini crabcakes. Both really good and the grapefruit martini was fantastic. Will be back for regular happy hour but so sure about late night.

I booked a room for dinner for my family reunion on Friday. The food and service were the highlight of the weekend. The room was beautiful. Every item ordered was delicious. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Everyone's want to keep our yearly reunion in Rehoboth, just so we can continue to go to Summer House. Many family members went for lunch there on Saturday, and again on Sunday to watch football, and eat there. I vacation in town every year and can't wait to go back to Summer House!

Have eaten here about five times since July of this year when we moved here full time. I have read almost every review. Honestly this is one of the best places to eat. Yes it is a little crazy in season, off season is wonderful. Mark Q, I'm not sure what the gay thing was but we are a gay couple and they treat us wonderfully. The food is always great the service is wonderful, the manager is always walking around asking how things are, its one of our favorite places. Last night was great, I tried the Tomato and Crab Bisque and I have to say it was the best soup I have ever had anywhere, my partner always get the chili and loves it and even for off season I had the tuna and it was amazing. We will always go here, we love it.

I came here on a cold autumn day. I had the pumpkin-crab bisque for an appetizer. I could have licked the bowl clean. The texture and taste was perfect. I ordered the crab cake sandwich for my lunch. It was mediocre but still good. I love the sandwich sides of homemade chips or shoestring fries. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Also, excellent BBQ sauce.

Surprisingly good - probably a 3 star place - but our $13 lunch special (Steak, mac 'n cheese and a small wedge salad) was awesome for the money. DH had a cuban sandwich and excellent sweet potato fries. Oh - and the crab/lobster biqsue had a red pepper base and tasted wonderful. Perky gal servers and big comfy booths. Pineapple infused vodka shots. We came for a quiet late lunch - but I bet this place gets crackin' at night - and could possibly be a frat-boy central. The biggest problem? Lots and lots of FLIES. (Eew.) That knocks a star off for sure!

Quick review ..... Had dinner here recently. Friends were delighted with their meals. I had ribs. If you like them wet with a bite, they were spot on. I do not like them real wet and these were real wet. The meat was substantial. Very meaty and tender as a baby's butt. The sauce though takes away from a top quality rib. Took most of it home and wiped off most of the sauce and had a darn good set of ribs. Fries were pretty lame. Overall OK

This is reasonable alternative. Food is good but nothing great. I had the sliced steak sandwich. It was tender and plentiful. The cream of crab soup was excellent. The menu had a wide variety of land and sea food all of which sounded great. I think you could do a lot worse at the beach. And the bar was excellent.

Although Summerhouse is a little bit of a walk from the Boardwalk, it's a good staple for Rehoboth. Food was impressive for a restaurant that turns into a night spot around 11pm. Drinks were really reasonable priced as well.

How many employees does it take to get a condiment? Apparently after asking 2, and waiting 15 minutes, the answer is do it yourself as both employees are now ignoring you. Greeted by one server, order taken by someone else, host had no idea how to seat people. Had to find one manager to ask for a check after being ignored for another 10 minutes. Mediocre food - chips were good but not w the blue cheese sauce. Walk down to Dogfish.

  • Lyn G.

Horrible service. There were three in our party and we were seated in a booth at the window. There were flies galore near the windows and we heard a waitress explain to a customer that they weren't seating people near the windows for this reason (so why, with a restaurant FULL of empty tables did our waitress show us to this booth?!). To add insult to injury, our waitress took our order (all salads) and then disappeared. I had to track down the owner after 20 minutes to see what happened to our food. No apology, no free coffee or discounted lunch... The salads were excellent, but the service was pithy! Do not stop here if in a hurry...(and best to bring a fly swatter, just in case)~

This restaurant has become a new favorite in downtown Rehoboth Beach. It's hard to beat the Summerhouse Chopped Salad, which I've had several times and never tire of ordering. Our guests yesterday when asked by the server if we needed anything else, said "perhaps a wheelbarrow," because their sandwiches were so large! The business lunch on weekdays is a great value at $13 for a salad/soup and entree. We generally go there for lunch, but plan on having dinner there one day soon, too.

During my recent vacay, Summerhouse provided the best food and dining experience of my trip. Thank you, once again, fellow Yelpers for your awesome reviews. Got to Summerhouse late into the dinner hour and the place was packed. We were told our party of 6 would have to wait 15 to 25 minutes for a table and were given a beeper and sent to the benches outside. We waited for less than 5 minutes and were seated. Sweet! The giant booths comfortably seated the 6 of us and our waiter was quick to get our drink orders and crayons for the kids to doodle on the tablecloth. Brilliant idea, Summerhouse! The kids were stoked they could color anywhere they wanted. We ordered an AMAZING app of Crab Dip that was outrageously good. Devoured every morsel. The complimentary homemade bread was really good... a little different than the usual. The slices were generous and took the edge off the kids' hunger while they waited for their meals. The boys got seafood dishes which they raved over and said was some of the best they've ever had. Mom and I got a soup and salad. The salad was really nice-- field greens with carmelized pecans, cranberries and baked goat cheese. The goat cheese was a little too mild for this particular dish, I wish they had chosen something with some chutzpah.... it was good, but it could have been better. Mom and I opted to each try their soups of the day. I had white chicken chili which was good: the chicken was tender and the flavors were nicely balanced. But since mom and I try each other's dishes, I was uber-uber-uber jealous of her OUTSTANDING Cream of Crab soup. Orgasm in a bowl. I'm not a seafood eater, but this soup is what culinary wet dreams are made of. Rich, creamy, perfection with nice lumps of crab. This soup should DEFINITELY be on their daily menu, because it would draw crowds. Not that they need any help filling their tables, but you get what I'm saying. My only complaint about Summerhouse is with regard to the lighting and noise level. The place is EXTREMLY dark. I like dim lighting, but this place was ridiculously dark. And given that the booths are a step up/down, and they serve liqour... they're just asking for trouble. Second, the noise level is outrageous. They have music playing AND 6 TV's all showing different sports channels all competing... not to mention that the place is crowded and that alone creates quite a din. I wished they would have just chosen to either play music and mute the TV's or vice-versa. Regardless, I can heartily recommend Summerhouse... When I go back to Rehoboth, I will definitely return to Summerhouse. It gets high marks for all the things that really count: -great food -reasonable prices -kid friendly (both in service and kid's menu) -clean -full bar -good service What more could you ask for? Free body shots off naked bartenders, maybe?

We went here Monday night for half priced burger night around 7:00PM. There was a wait so we decided to scoop up two seats at the bar. I was really hungry and wanted to eat quickly in order to catch the last part of Pamala Stanley's show. The bartender informed us that it was also the special price of 2.50 for miller products. I ordred a turkey burger with pepper jack cheese with a side of the sweet potato fries and a miller light with lime. My friend had a hamburger with mozarella and substituted a side of mash potatoes in lieu of the fries. The food came quickly and the burgers were tasty. It was very tasty. For only seven dollars a piece for the burger and the beer, it was a real bargain too.

Surprisingly good. Steak and prime rib excellent. Sides ( mashed potatoes and spinach) -- which come with the meal -- were also good. Unfortunately, no beer on tap. One of the better restaurants in Rehoboth.

We love this place! Good food, good service, open year-round. Located right on Rehoboth Ave, which means parking is problematic in the summer. Owned by the same people who run the very popular "Big Fish"--but we think Summer House is even better

We got there a little late to eat but the bar was packed so I didn't think twice about sitting on the restaurant side. Could barely get any attention from the waitstaff. Very little follow up. The only time we got attention was when some drunk guy came over to us acting like a moron. He proceeded to put his own head through the glass window on the door seperating the bar & restaurant. Then there was staff all over us. Too little too late. Food wasn't bad

I didn't eat here but my friend and I stopped for some drinks. I really didn't see why this place was so much busier than neighboring bars and restaurants. I thought the beers were overpriced and the bartenders were not as nice and attentive as other places I drank at that weekend. IF I ever visited it again I'm sure I'd have a stronger opinion one way or another. The menu looked large enough to have something for everyone. It is central to everything else in the area. And no offense but I don't want kids at my drinking establishment so if it's kind friendly then that is definitely a con.

What a fantastically delicious dinner!! We started with some drinks at the bar while waiting for a table. The bar tender made a rather delicious and strong drink but did have a bit of an attitude. Once we were seated we started with the artichoke and spinach dip and the calamari. Both were incredible! For dinner I had the crab cake sandwich with mashed potatoes, which was amazing and the perfect size. Everyone else really enjoyed their dishes too. The prices were great as well as the service. The waitress we had was really friendly and hilarious. She told us a pretty great joke when we asked, Great service! I HIGHLY recommend this place for dinner.

I went on Wednesday which is BBQ night. All you can eat ribs and two sides for 19.99! I got the Mac and cheese and the Neva potatoes with the ribs. The ribs were tender and the sauce was a rich sweet and slightly spicy tomato based sauce. The star was the Mac and cheese... Really great cheesy, crunchy and sharp Mac and cheese. Definitely will come back for the Mac and cheese!

Somehow I forgot to review this joint after returning from a vacation in Bethany Beach a few weeks ago, but here it goes. I honestly can't remember what most people in my party ate, but they all enjoyed it. I had a horseradish-crusted salmon dish that was really tasty. The service is friendly and it didn't take too long on a busy night. If you want a casual place to get some pretty good food, give Summerhouse a shot.

Just let me tell you that the Bloody Mary's are perfection. We really enjoyed the atmosphere, service and food here. I tried the loaded wedge salad and it was awesome- crisp, fresh, & the tomatoes were actually red. Just Delicious. My mom had the Caesar and she's still raving. For dinner I had the fillet in the Cabernet demi glaze. She had the Crab Cake sand and thought it was decent. ( not utterly amazing-ness but fine) the sweet potato fries are yummy. My fillet was cooked perfectly and yes, I ate every bite OK? They seem to get on a wait pretty early so stop by & put your name in then hit the endlessly cool Rehoboth shops, work up your appetite and enjoy-

We dined here as a party of 8 and the hostess was very helpful in finding a table for us. We all enjoyed our meals, highlights were the crab cakes and filet mignon. We went to Summer House for dinner prior to the Starboard closing weekend blow out. They don't do reservations, or even call ahead seating, so since we had a party of five, we sent in one of the gals while we found a parking space to get us on the list. There wasn't a table ready when we all got in, so we went for a drink at the bar. For starters - I actually got a GOOD POUR on the glass of Pino Grigio that I ordered. And it didn't cost $9. (HELLO!!! Liberty Tavern, Restaurant Eve - put some wine in the glass already!) By the time we had finished our drinks the table was ready. I ordered the scallops and risotto appetizer as my entre. It was quite tasty, and the perfect portion for me. My girlfriend ordered the crab cake sandwich. I didn't get to try any, but it looked very heavy on the crab, and light on the bred and fillers. She ate it all! On the side of her sandwich was a huge, heaping pile of sweet potato fries. They were out of this world! I kept stealing them throughout the meal. We all enjoyed our dinner. The prices were reasonable - especially considering that we were at the beach. The service was friendly, the drinks were generous. What's not to like?

I appreciate what Summerhouse is trying to do, namely decent food at decent prices, but my lunch (Caesar salad and crawfish/shrimp etouffee) was underwhelming. The service was shockingly slow given the almost-empty restaurant (fewer than 10 customers including us). We're talking about a wait of close to15 minutes for the etouffee - basically everything had been cooked and just had to be dumped on the plate. Picking the food apart starting with the Caesar salad: - Woefully underdressed. - Slightly wilted romaine lettuce. - Watery. There was a pool of white-coloured liquid at the bottom of the bowl. - Stale croutons. They were probably from a box, but whatever grease/oil/butter-substitute they used to make it tasted a little off. Not quite rancid, but definitely past its prime. - The little sticks of shredded domestic parmesan that tasted like the lowest end stuff... not that there's anything wrong with that. But there was far too much of it, so much so that all I could taste in the salad was cheap parmesan. As for the crawfish and shrimp etouffee that seems to advertised everywhere (daily special on the board, business lunch menu, the regular menu, the website's sample Sunday brunch menu...)? - The sauce/gravy was so unpleasantly acidic that it masked the taste of everything. That includes the shrimp, crawfish, and the rice. - The advertised jumbo shrimp weren't visible at first glance. But after some diligent digging about with my spoon, I found 3 or 4 shrimps that would probably have been described as "medium sized" at best. Thanks to the sauce, I could hardly taste the shrimp. - The crawfish? Mealy. Horrible texture. But there sure were a lot of them... which I couldn't taste thanks again to the sauce. - This may be nit-picking, but some of the minced parsley used as a garnished had black edges. Not dark green, but black. We were in a hurry to get to the beach, so I didn't send it back. But given the other reviews, I may give them another chance. Although not with the big mess that they called their etouffee.

They have the best Mac & Cheese EVER!!! I was shocked to find out just how good their mac & cheese was... I've gone to the Summerhouse & Big Fish (both have the same owners and very similar menus) for years and always ordered the Nieves potato (which are also amazing) and it wasn't until my fiance ordered the mac & cheese on our last visit that I discovered just how amazing it was! My entire family agreed, Best mac & cheese we've EVER had!! I we liked it so much we even got an order of it to go :)

After many evenings of drinking with friends at the Summerhouse, I finally met a friend for a business lunch there. I had a grilled salmon BLT with wonderfully ripe tomatoes, crisp bacon and a really nice chunk of salmon fillet. Too big to eat at one sitting, I took it home for breakfast the next day!

1/2 price burger night. That says it all. On a vacation where money seems to leave your custody at every turn Monday night at the Summerhouse will give your wallet a reprieve. The burgers were really very good, and quite large. We had a table with six adults and two kids. Our burgers all had different toppings and every temperature from medium rare to shoe leather tough. The burgers were served up fast and with no mistakes. That fact alone earns them a star. The placed was packed. The guys in the kitchen sure can work well under pressure. We will definitely be back the next time we are in town on a Monday.

Went to "Big Fish" one of their other restaurants in town the night before....we were so impressed with food there, we checked out Summer House and were nicely impressed here too- delicious! Attentive and prompt service, great bread (love the bread!), tasty food (enjoyed our BBQ and Gouda mac and cheese leftovers too!!), and friendly servers. Only little "weakness" is that the restaurant is a bit dark in the backroom. This said, this definately not deter me next time. Would ABSOLUTELY go back- no doubts at all. I'd almost give it 5 star, but think 5 has to be absolutely perfect!

we visited this bar on a tuesday since known for its tuesday night crowds, and it turned out to be fun (also the night of my birthday so maybe thats part of the reason!). it wasnt as crowded as previous times that i have been there, but we sat at the bar which is always the place to be. the first vodka collins i got was terrible, but the other bartender redeemed the staff with a delicious greyhound (of which i had several). the summer house is also known for their version of a long island iced tea - verrrry dangerous! i had to skip that this round.

Consistently excellent food. Fresh fish is always good. Excellent hamburger too! The salad with the goat cheese is very good. Love the chili too! Fun place to watch football. They do need draft beer though.

Went in a Friday night off season. Still very busy and a bit loud, but service was friendly and prompt. Salad portions were very large and tasty. Steak entry was solid, but not outstanding. Gluten Free menu options were very limited, and did not include baked potatoes (which should have been on there).

I've always found this place to be pretty overrated. It's a nice bar, but the bartenders are a bit ride and it gets crowded at night. It's very popular because it's basically the only decent straight bar in Rehoboth

GF menu though no dedicated fryer. It was a real treat to get a crab cake for lunch. Cole slaw was very good. They took my needs seriously. Friend had a turkey burger and house made potato chips she said were very good.

One of the BEST-EVER dinners -- 8oz filet, mashed pots, loaded wedge salad -- wonderful server Carla -- family still talking about it! Telling everyone heading to Rehoboth to be sure and dine at Summer House! It was amazing!

Had prime rib special...medium well was rare and came floating in sauce...flavor was decent...service could be better, glad it was a slow night or it could have been really bad...ordered captain and coke and got coke for the most part...don't let the fancyness and wood decor fool you, it's just another average restaurant!!
